Welcome back, esteemed readers!

This months’ first shining star is Teresita Miyares of Miyares Group Accountants and Consultants.

A little about Teresita;

I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. I am married, and the proud parent of a 15-year-old, 4-year-old, and 2-year-old, all girls. I developed an interest in accounting straight out of high school when I started working at a local CPA firm. I completed a Bachelors in Accounting at Barry University and a Master’s in Accounting from Nova Southeastern University. In 2006 I took a leap of faith and started my own practice.

If that’s not enough about Teresita, check out our interview with her below!

1. What, or who, are you a “closet” fan of?
This is kind of a tough question, but I am a big fan of my kids. I will always be their #1 fan!

2. What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?
Spare time… what is that? LOL, whenever I do have some time I guess the nerdiest thing I do is look up pictures of old muscle cars on Pinterest.

3. What is the most annoying question that people ask you?
Definitely the most annoying question people ask me is: why did “insert name” get a bigger tax refund than me?

4. Name two things you consider yourself to be very good at.
I would say I am good at keeping my clients’ businesses financially organized and keeping them on track for continuous growth.

5.What’s a favorite family memory that has stuck with you into your adult life? Why?
My favorite family memory is definitely our long weekend trips to Naples as a child. This was a time when the whole family, and I mean the whole Cuban family there was never less than 7 rooms that belonged to us, would get together and truly spend quality time.

6. What would you do with your “15 minutes” of fame?
I would use it to help as many people as I possibly could.

7. Have you ever won anything? What was it?
I can’t remember anything that I have won. I was awarded a Volleyball Scholarship to Barry University back in the days, but being only 4 foot 8, I had to work really hard for that. This is shocking to a lot of people ☺

8. Who would you choose to be your mentor, if you had the choice?
I would definitely choose my father as my mentor. He was one of the brightest, bravest, and most knowledgeable businessmen I have ever known. Unfortunately, he is no longer with us.

9. What’s your most significant current challenge?
My most significant challenge right now is finding a balance in life. It’s not easy to juggle a growing business, a teenager, two toddlers, and continuous education and growth all at the same time. It definitely makes life interesting, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

What a beautiful origin story. A working mother and devoted student taking one of the biggest risks in her life, opening her own business, and successfully becoming a community inspiration for many. Regardless of her lack of free time, you can still schedule a consultation if you find yourself in need of accounting needs. Teresita may be reached at tmiyares@miyaresgroup.com or 305-640-8521.
