Maria Passo is an international associate at EPGD Business Law. She was born in Bahia, Brazil, but lived for over 14 years in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She obtained a Juris Doctor equivalent from IBMEC – Instituto Brasileiro de Mercado de Capitais, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She earned a Master of Laws Degree in International Arbitration from the University of Miami School of Law, where she received a merit-based scholarship.
Maria has extensive experience in Brazilian complex litigation and arbitration disputes handling, among others, commercial, contractual, corporate, construction, aviation, technology, real estate, and business disputes. During her LL.M. studies, and before joining EPGD, Maria interned for Shutts & Bowen LLP in the litigation and international arbitration practice group, and for John H. Rooney, Jr., P.A. in the international arbitration sphere.
Ms. Passo was approved in the Brazilian Bar Examination, and recently in the New York Bar Examination (2021).
Maria is also the Assistant Editor of the Indian Review of International Arbitration in cooperation with the MNLU Mumbai Centre for Arbitration and Research. She is also the author of the article “After Car Wash: Arbitration of Brazilian Infrastructure Contracts” published in the Inter-American Law Review of the University of Miami School of Law.
On a Personal Note: In her free time, Maria enjoys going to the beach, staying active, listening to music, and spending time with her family and friends.
