EPGD Law Shining Star: Mark Trowbridge

With a warm heart and a big smile, we welcome Mark Trowbridge, President and CEO of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, to our Newsies™!

About Mark:

Mark Trowbridge serves as the President and CEO of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, a position he has held since 2006. He is the longest-tenured Chamber president in Miami.

Mark serves as the chief executive responsible for the day-to- day success of the 1600- member organization, working with volunteer leaders engaged in the Chamber’s long-term economic development strategies and community initiatives. The Chamber is a leading voice for business in the community and advocates for its membership.

Prior to joining the Chamber, Mark was Deputy Executive Director for Business Development for the Miami Parking Authority. Under his watch, the Authority engaged in an aggressive period of growth, with more than $30 million in capital projects in the planning, development and construction phases. Mark also helped guide the formulation of the strategic plan for the Authority during his tenure, as well as oversaw the management of the Olympia Theatre.

Mark has provided consulting services regarding Volunteer Management and Leadership Development. He has worked with such organizations as the Orange Bowl Committee, the Miami Open, Mayors’ Summit of the Americas, International Pow Wow, and OpSail Miami. Mark also previously served as an adjunct professor at Barry University and St. Thomas University, teaching in the Sports Management Master’s Program.

Mark received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Florida. He has also been elected to both Florida Blue Key and Iron Arrow, the highest honors attainable at both the University of Florida and the University of Miami, recognizing outstanding leadership and service.

His community involvement includes having served as President of the National Board for the University of Florida Alumni Association, and Mark is a Past-President of the award-winning Gator Club® of Miami. Mark currently serves on the Boards of Seraphic Fire, The Miami-Dade Children’s Trust, the Miami-Dade Beacon Council and Actors’ Playhouse.

Mark lives in Miami Springs with his faithful canine companion Sir Winston Churchill Trowbridge.

With an exciting portfolio like that, we didn’t even need the questions but, we thought it would be great to show you his fun side!

1. What would the movie title of your life be?
Oh wow, so many ideas here, both traditional and off the beaten path. Let’s twist things up a tad – The Sound of Mark or Uncle Mark, a take on my two fave movies growing up.

2. What is the strangest talent you have?
I was a USTA/ATP Umpire for 6 years and I had a knack for calling lines, including a stint at the US Open – no pressure here!

3. What is the most annoying question that people ask you?
For a phone number or email – I am quite literally the yellow pages for Coral Gables!

4. Name two things you consider yourself to be very good at.
I am oft-considered a local D-List Celebrity, so my skill set is very modest, indeed. How about fine dining and creative writing!

5. What do you think you will be doing 20 years from now?
In 20 years, I will be nearly 70…so, I hope I am semi-retired and working part-time at Books & Books for Mitchell Kaplan!

6. What would you do with your “15 minutes” of fame?
Promote the importance of joining your local Chamber and shopping small!

7. Have you ever won anything? What was it?
In college, I wore a white wedding dress and lip-synced to Madonna’s “La Isla Bonita” – taking home the first-place trophy and $35.

8. Who would you choose to be your mentor, if you had the choice?
Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President of these United States. He is my hero!

9. What’s a fear you’re proud to have overcome?
I have an inordinate number of fears and pet peeves – heights, snakes, gluten-free snacks. I did overcome a fear of the dark as a youngster and well, to this day I like it cool, dark and quiet in my man cave!

If you found this interview fun and would love to have a one to one with Mark, he can be easily reached at MTrowbridge@coralgableschamber.org or, simply by taking a brisk walk through Coral Gables, FL and you’re bound to run into him. Trust us, he’s definitely a celebrity in our hearts.
Thank you Mark!
